Anyone who requires a basic technical introduction to the iSeries/i5 system will benefit from this course.

Prerequisites

No knowledge of iSeries computing is expected, although knowledge of the fundamentals of computing is assumed. Familiarity using a 5250 screen would be helpful.

Course Objectives

This course provides a technical introduction to the system (System i , i5, iSeries and AS/400). Hands on lab exercises are provided to introduce system access. Both 5250 and iSeries Navigator are used on the course.

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to use:

  • System displays.
  • Menus.
  • Common commands.
  • iSeries Navigator.
  • Help tools.

Course Content

Introduction to i (System i , i5, iSeries and AS/400) and IOS (OS/400)
Introduce the basics of the system architecture and system objects.
Familiarisation with some displays.
Describe some of the basic terminology used with the system (objects, libraries, etc...).

Interfaces
Introduce the various interfaces that may be used.
System menus, displays and iSeries Navigator.
Understand the working environment.
Control Language.
Object management.
Library Management.
Library Lists.
Messages.
Know where to go for HELP.
