WebSphere Portal v7 Administration and Deployment

Audience

This is a course for administrators who are responsible for installing and maintaining a WebSphere Portal v7 Server based web site. Previous versions can be delivered on request.

Prerequisites

Prior experience with WebSphere Application Server administration is required. Students may wish to attend the WebSphere Application Server 7.0 administration course to gain this experience.

Course Objectives

This course teaches the operational tasks involved in maintaining a WebSphere Portal Server environment. This course focuses specifically on the advanced configuration required to support a cluster of WebSphere Portal servers. Rather than simply working with a basic installation throughout the entire course, students are shown how to accomplish the tasks that will be required in a production-scale WebSphere Portal deployment. Students will initially work separately so they become familiar with administrative tasks and then will work together to create a horizontal Portal cluster.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Plan for a portal installation
• Install portal, including silent installation
• Create a customized look and feel
• Install new portlet applications
• Configure Portal composite applications
• Add portlets to pages and change page layout
• Configure security using LDAP
• Migrate portal configuration databases to an external database
• Resolve most common problems
• Perform basic performance tuning
• Create multiple virtual portals
• Use Web Content Management to maintain the web site
