This course is for system administrators and technical staff who will be responsible for the implementation and operations of a VERITAS NetBackup environment.
The workshop requires a prior knowledge of UNIX or Windows system administration skills.

This workshop introduces the concepts of VERITAS NetBackup 6 on Solaris or Windows. Its theory provides the delegate with the principles of media management, data backup and restores. The practical aspects of the course instruct the delegate how to manage various types of backup configuration, use the appropriate administration tools and manage recovery and troubleshooting. On completion of this course delegates will be able to:

NetBackup concepts, environment and terminology. Master, Media and EMM servers.
Installing NetBackup, Configuring Devices
Installing the software, configuring backup devices, using and controlling devices.
Configuring Storage Units & Media
Using tape and disk-based storage units. Defining and managing storage units. Managing fragmentation. Using multiplexing. Configuring backup media.
Backup Policies
Backup and archive policy issues. Defining backup policies. Image aging and retention periods.
Managing Backups & Restores
Initiating and monitoring backups. User directed backups and archives. Restoring data. Restoring from multiple images. Monitoring backup and restore jobs.
Media & Image Management
The NetBackup media catalogue. Media states. Managing images including importing, duplicating and verifying images. Accessing standard media reports. NetBackup catalogue management.
