Audience

This course is for UNIX system administrators who have attended our Enterprise Linux System Administration Part 1 course and require the advanced techniques and skills needed to integrate RHEL6, Fedora, Scientific LINUX or CentOS 6 systems into their networks.

Prerequisites

The course assumes delegates have attended the Part 1 course and have, therefore, already gained a good understanding of installing and using Enterprise Linux (RHEL6).

Course Objectives

This Enterprise Linux System Administration Part 2 course allows delegates to create multiple networks; set-up a Network File System server and clients; LDAP and DNS clients. Delegates will also be introduced to Samba to enable Windows based systems access to Linux services; and Apache for web server applications. On completion of the course delegates will understand:

  • Installing Enterprise Linux using KickStart.
  • Managing the Linux kernel and modules.
  • Advanced disk partitioning.
  • Introduction to Linux RAID.
  • Introduction to Logical Volume Management.
  • Setting up Name Service DNS & LDAP.
  • Using Apache to provide web services.
  • Operational recovery & security.
  • Advanced network configuration.
  • Sharing files with NFS and Samba.
  • Monitor and maintain log files.
  • Managing processes and installed services.
  • Creating and managing virtual machines.
