All mainframe developers wishing to make the move to the new Object Orientated way of programming in Java under the z/OS environment.
Delegates should have basic PC Skills and some programming experience.
5 days. Hands on.
The course introduces students to the Java programming syntax, at the same time, teaching students the Object Orientated approach to programming. There are four main modules covered: Packages, Classes & Objects, Interfaces, Applets and Applications in Java, and Java User Interfaces. Java has evolved rapidly through several major changes, and is now a full-fledged programming language for building stand-alone applications and also applications for web browsers called applets. Applets make up only a small part of Java's capability.
Two of the strongest reasons for using Java are its Platform Independence and its Maintainability. Java runs on Windows Systems, Macintosh, Unix and now mainframe operating systems, including many other third party ports. Because of its ease of maintenance it is becoming the language of choice for application development.
Through lecture and hands on labs, students will also develop a basic understanding of the major concepts of OO programming. Students will be able to create their own Java applications or applets with the knowledge gained from this class.
